Service & Emotional Support Animals

a Guide for Decision and Policy Making

An Accessibility Aid?

Service Animals and Emotional Support Animals are used by some people with disabilities and mental illness to help them access the world. Congregations are not legally required to allow these animals in the building, though some congregations see this as a necessary step toward a barrier-free community for people with disabilities and mental illness. This guide offers questions and information for church leaders as they write a policy accepting (or not accepting) Service and Emotional Support Animals in their congregation.
