Staff and Field Associates
ADN Staff Members
The staff of Anabaptist Disabilities Network work collaboratively with each other and volunteers to provide support and resources to congregations. Each part-time employee brings their lived and professional experience with disabilities to their role at the organization.
Jeanne Davies, Executive Director
Jeanne serves as Executive Director and carries responsibility for outreach, advocacy, and development. She is ordained in the Church of the Brethren, has a Master of Divinity degree from Bethany Theological Seminary in Richmond, Indiana, a Graduate Certificate in Homiletic Peer Coaching from Vanderbilt Divinity School, and a Graduate Certificate in Disability and Ministry from Western Theological Seminary in Holland, Michigan. Jeanne has a passion for disability advocacy and inclusion, and she believes that the whole church benefits when all the members of the Body are actively connected. She lives in West Dundee, Illinois, with her husband, Joel. They attend York Center Church of the Brethren in Lombard, Illinois.
Emily Hunsbaker, Communications Director
Emily serves as Communications Director for ADN and is responsible for the newsletter, blog, and other communications and resources. With a bachelor’s degree in Biblical and Theological studies from Bluffton University, Emily developed an enthusiasm for creating healthy communities in college, and she remains convinced that communities are healthiest when everyone is welcomed and embraced as they are. Emily believes that members of the community function best when needs are met, and she is passionate about breaking down the barriers that prevent true community from forming. Emily lives in Goshen, Indiana, with her cat, Cosmo. She is actively involved in the youth and young adult ministry of Waterford Mennonite Church.
Zoë Brown, Office Administrator
Zoë serves as Office Administrator for ADN, caring for processing donations and invoices, as well as managing the office space. She graduated from Goshen College with a bachelor’s degree in Biology and has a passion for caring for people and animals. She believes that all of God’s creation should be treated with love and kindness. Zoë lives in Goshen, Indiana, and is an active member of Waterford Mennonite Church.
Volunteer Field Associates
Field Associates are professionals and people with lived experience with disabilities. Field Associates volunteer their expertise in partnership with ADN on program areas that contribute to ADN’s mission. Katherine Dickson
Kathy is a passionate advocate for individuals with disabilities and for accessibility and disability rights. Living with a family member with IDD opened her eyes to the experience of disability in a sometimes inaccessible world from an early age. She has served as a disability advocate, family caregiver, camp counselor, care assistant, ADA coordinator in both professional and volunteer capacities, and leans on her own disability wisdom as well. She has an MDiv from MTSO where she serves on staff in a variety of capacities, including ADA Coordinator, and on the national core council for the Institute on Theology and Disability the last five years, and with ADN as a volunteer field associate for the last 15 years.
Keith Dow
Keith lives near Ottawa, Ontario (Canada) where he works as Manager of Organizational and Spiritual Life with Karis Ministries, a faith-based organization serving people with intellectual disabilities in Canada and around the world. He is the author of Formed Together: Mystery, Narrative, and Virtue in Christian Caregiving, which arose from his PhD in theological ethics through Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Keith is a credentialed pastor with BIC Canada and serves on the core council of the Institute of Theology and Disability. More of Keith’s writing can be found at https://keithdow.com/work/. He loves to talk about theology, fostering belonging in church communities, and making maple syrup.
Rebekah Flores
Rebekah lives in Huntley, Illinois, where she attends Highland Avenue Church of the Brethren. Rebekah brings experience living and working with people with developmental disabilities and a strong interest in promoting disability awareness and inclusion in congregations. Rebekah also serves on the ADN board in an ex-officio capacity.
Chou Hallegra
Chou is the founder and CEO of Grace & Hope Consulting, LLC, where she writes, trains, consults, and coaches to promote resilience, social-emotional learning, human potential, wellbeing, and belonging for all. She identifies as a person with disabilities and is the primary caregiver for three family members with diverse physical, behavioral, and developmental needs. With post-graduate training in Rehabilitation Counseling and over twenty years of experience in human services, Chou is passionate about making a difference for individuals and communities. She is a Certified Trauma-Competent Professional and is very intentional about creating healing and thriving spaces for all. Chou and her family reside in Pennsylvania, but she is originally from Brazzaville, Congo and speaks French.
Bonnie Miller
Bonnie is the mother of a young adult with cerebral palsy and has 27 years of experience in elementary/early childhood education: twelve years in general education and fifteen years in special education. She has been involved in IEP annual conferences as both a parent and a teacher. At both school and church, Bonnie works to make classrooms barrier-free for children with a variety of disabilities. Bonnie has advocated for disabled members in her congregation and enjoys brainstorming ways to help every child experience full inclusion with their peers.
Jon-Erik Misz
Jon-Erik (J.E.) resides in Goshen, IN, where he works as a licensed clinical social worker. Some of his favorite people in the world have experienced mental illness, and he views their presence in our church communities as a true gift. He is a member of Waterford Mennonite Church, where his wife, Katie, serves on the pastoral team. Jon-Erik also serves on ADN’s Board of Directors.
Mark Pickens
Mark lives in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, where he attends First Church of the Brethren, Harrisburg. Mark has a Master of Divinity degree from Bethany Theological Seminary. He brings to ADN his personal experience as a blind person. He is interested in exploring the ways our understandings of God and disabilities interact and influence personal faith and congregational practices. Mark can speak about many disability accessibility issues, including those related to low vision and blindness.
Denise Reesor
Denise Reesor lives in Goshen, Indiana where she works as a school psychologist. She is passionate about the inclusion and belonging of all peoples and families in the church. Denise attends East Goshen Mennonite church along with her husband Tony.
Katie Smith
Katie Smith lives in Blacksburg, Virginia, and works as an Access Advisor in the Services for Students with Disabilities office at Virginia Tech. Katie identifies as a disabled person and has Cerebral Palsy. Katie is a member of the Church of the Brethren.
Milt Stoltzfus
Milt was a member of the ADN board from 2004 until 2017. He works as coordinator of spiritual nurture and community life for Friendship Community in Lititz, Pa. Milt had two older sisters who were born with developmental disabilities. Milt attends Forest Hills Mennonite Church in Leola, PA.
Heddie Sumner
Heddie is a registered nurse and has a BSN. Before her retirement, Heddie served as Care Manager, Director of Dementia Services, and Director of Resources and Development for Senior Services/Midland County Council on Aging in Michigan. Heddie is co-author of A Family Centered Alzheimer’s Care – A Caregiver’s Manual and Doing More with Less: Michigan Dementia Coalition. She provides trainings on dementia for staff of nursing homes, adult day cares, and adult foster care homes. She also provides trainings for congregations on how to include people with disabilities, including those with dementia. Heddie lives in Eagle Rock, Virginia with her husband Bill. They attend the Daleville Church of the Brethren.
Sarah Werner
Sarah is the communications coordinator for Central District Conference, part of Mennonite Church USA, leader of Olentangy Wild Church in Columbus, Ohio, and author of Rooted Faith: Practices for Living Well on a Fragile Planet (Herald Press, 2023). She has a Master of Divinity from Candler School of Theology at Emory University and a PhD in Religion from the University of Florida. Sarah experiences life in the body of someone with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, an inherited connective tissue disorder that affects her mobility. She is able to speak on a variety of topics, including: accessible design, ableism in the church, and accessible outdoor adventures. In her free time, she enjoys nature photography, hand cycling, and camping.
